The unbeaten West Texas A&M women's basketball team is getting ready to head out on the road for a brutal 3-game stretch against some very good competition. The 11th ranked Lady Buffs beat Northern New Mexico 99-52 last Saturday and head coach Mark Kellogg said the team is definitely making progress but they need to be tested at this point in the season and definitely will in the next three games.
The road trip starts at undefeated and 3rd ranked Emporia State on Sunday before the Lady Buffs head to Seattle Washington for games with Simon Frazier and #9 Seattle Pacific.
West Texas A&M senior guard Casey Land has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week in women's basketball. The Canyon High product Land led the Lady Buffs in scoring with 14 points against Northern New Mexico last Saturday. She had a season-high eight steals and six assists. WT held Northern New Mexico to 52 points which marked the fifth game in a row the Lady Buffs have held their opponent to under 40 percent shooting and under 55 points.
West Texas A&M JR- Forward Antjuan Ball has been named the Lone Star Conference defensive player of the week in men's basketball. In the Buffs' win over Newman University last Saturday in Canyon, Ball went 8-of-13 from the floor for 16 points while also grabbing an impressive 20 rebounds (8 offensive, 12 defensive) with one block and one steal. WT Interim head coach Vinay Patel said Ball has really played well since joining the proram.
The game marked the first for Patel as interim head coach. He took over when longtime Buffs coach Rick Cooper retired last week
The Buffaloes will host OPSU in their next game this Saturday at 4 p.m. in Canyon.
