After having a 4-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, the Amarillo Thunderheads suffer their first lost of the season as Laredo took a 6-5 win at home. The series is now tied up at one game apiece. Corey Bass went 2-4 with two RBI in the lost. Clayton Tanner pitched six and a third innings of three run ball in the no decision. Game three of the series takes place tonight at 7:05.
Ryan Palmer missed the cut at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial by just one stroke. Palmer shot a three-over par 73 for the second round to have an overall score of two-over 142. This is just the third time in 12 years that Palmer missed the cut at this event.
In high school baseball action yesterday, West Texas High advances by winning their series with Clarendon by taking a 7-6 win, Plainview takes game one from Canyon 3-0, Randall defeats El Paso De Valle 12-2 to have 1-0 series lead, and Bushland wins their series opener against Pampa 2-1.
A major upset is brewing in the Region 1-5A high school softball semifinals as Canyon pulled out a 2-1 win over number one ranked Aledo. With the win, the Lady Eagles snapped Aledo's 44-game winning streak. Both teams scored their runs in the sixth inning with only ten total hits between the schools. Game two of the series rolls on today at 11 am.
The Amarillo Venom get set for their critical home game this weekend as they face off against the Texas Revolution. The Venom come into the contest with a 6-3 record and a tough four overtime win over Duke City this past Saturday 89-86. Amarillo is just a half game behind Wichita for first place in the league. Kickoff for Saturday's game will be at 7:05 pm.
Amarillo High senior pole vaulter Braden Moses has signed his letter-of-intent to the University of Texas Arlington. Moses finished second at this year's 1-6/ 2-6A area meet and won the Amarillo Relays with his season best 14-6. His personal-best vault came his junior year with a vault of 15 feet.
